Classic Pear Crumble Recipe

Jessica Merchant | Dessert, Pears |American

Try this delicious Classic Pear Crumble recipe, featuring Harry & David Royal Riviera Pears. Pass the ice cream scoop, it's time to crumble!

Here at Harry & David, we go hard for pear season! What better way to enjoy Royal Riviera Pears, than with a crunchy pear crumble. A crumble is one of the best fruit desserts because of the simplicity and added crunch. It's really as simple as flour, sugar and butter (and some spices!), and when baked over top of the pears it gives the perfect added texture. To create the filling, just toss Royal Riviera Pears with a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon. Stir the topping up in seconds and pile it on top of the pears. Then bake it to a golden brown.

Ingredients

  • 4 Harry and David Pears, chopped into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
  • 8 Tbsp unsalted butter, at room temperature

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Spray an 8x8 inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
  3. Place the pears in the baking dish and cover them with the brown sugar and cinnamon. Toss well.
  4. In a larger bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg.
  5. Use a fork to smash in the softened butter, then use your hands to bring the mixture together. You want it to resemble sand and stick together when your hands squeeze it. It will take about 5 minutes to bring the mixture together and incorporate it with your hands.
  6. Sprinkle the crumble mixture over top of the pears.
  7. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the crumble looks golden and crunchy on top.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.
  9. Serve with vanilla ice cream.
