When was the last time a dessert also acted as a breakfast?
If this kind of dish is up your alley, then you'll want to sink your teeth into these English Muffin Vampire Fangs this Halloween season. They're easy to make and are a huge hit with kids. Who are we kidding? Adults will love them, too. If I'm serving them for dessert, I'll make a quick cream cheese frosting to go on the English Muffins. If I'm serving these before school, I'll just mix some red food coloring into cream cheese to keep the sugar count down before I ship off the little ones to take on the world.
The English muffin can be any flavor and Wolferman's offers a wide variety of them. Personally, I like the original recipe, but the cinnamon raisin English muffins also work well. I also like sourdough English muffins, too. Luckily my kids don't so more for me.
The trick to making this treat look like fangs is to cut your muffin in half once it is toasted and then add a row of teeth to the bottom half of the English muffin. For the top half, stick a few mini marshmallows on a toothpick or candy stick and use that for the “fangs." The toothpick is a bit easier to use, but just remind the kiddos so they don't impale themselves on it. That could be truly scary!
- 4 Wolferman's English Muffins (halved and toasted)
- 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
- 14 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 112 cups powdered sugar
- 12 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Red food coloring
- Mini marshmallows
- Toothpicks or candy sticks
- Combine cream cheese and butter in a bowl and beat with a hand mixer until light and fluffy (alternatively you can mix them in a stand mixer with the paddle attachment).
- Once the mixture is fluffy and combined, add in vanilla, followed by powdered sugar in ½ cup increments.
- Add in the red food coloring last and mix until it reaches the shade you want. Alternatively, you can just mix some red food coloring into whipped cream cheese for a low sugar version of this recipe.
- Toast English muffins and cut each half in half down the middle to form two half moons.
- Spread some frosting on each half. On one half, line mini marshmallows around the edge.
- On the second half stick in the fangs which can be mini marshmallows on either toothpicks or candy sticks. Shape them a little bit to look like fangs.
- Sandwich the two half moons together to form a vampire mouth. Eat immediately!
