disappointing,

"The amaryllis was disappointing. I sent it to a friend who has recently become a widow. I thought it would have a bloom or at least a stem with something promising attached to it. It came in a rather attractive pot with moss and a small bit of bulb showing. The remark of the recipient's son was "I hope she didn't pay much for this!" Well, I think I paid enough for a better show."

Not Disappointed

I sent an Amaryllis to my mother for Christmas a couple years ago. It arrived in the same condition you described but, with a different interpretation. The container was a beautiful, unusual planter with the promise of a bulb peeking through some spanish moss. My mother awakened eagerly each morning to check for new growth. When it bloomed 3 - 5 weeks later, she would then wake up to see if another bud had flowered. The advertisement promised 5 - 8 blooms when in fact, it had at least 10!! Upon arrival, it may look like dirt in a decorative container, but the prolific blooms these babies offer are well worth the wait. In my opinion (and my mom's), you can buy & send this with confidence.

"I sent one of these to my Mom in Illinois last spring. She had a blast watching it grow and bloom. The bloom lasted for a very long time. She said she watered it with ice cubes per instructions and still has the green plant - she wonders if it will bloom again in spring.
This arrives as a bulb in a box with instructions.
I would recommend this gift for someone who likes to watch things grow!"

"The Bethlehem Star amaryllis is spectacular (in the true sense of the word)! Not only did it blossom magnificently with four huge brilliantly colored blooms, but it put up a second stalk almost simultaneously and at one point we had EIGHT huge, magnificent flowers. Best we've ever had."
